Clemons facing big expectations

Colorado wide receiver Toney Clemons was named Big 12 Conference newcomer of the year today in voting done by media members who cover the conference. More inside

Toney Clemons, a transfer from Michigan who sat out last season, is expected to be a big contributor for the Buffs this season, despite relatively little production during his two years with the Wolverines.

He played in 19 games at Michigan with 12 receptions for 106 yards and no scores.

Colorado offensive linemen Nate Solder and Ryan Miller were named to the All-Conference preseason team. The honor was expected for Solder, who was named the first-team All-Big 12 left tackle by the league's coaches last season. It was slightly unexpected for Miller, who has battled injuries and consistency during his career.

The Buffs were picked to finish fifth in the Big 12 north division in the preseason media poll released Wednesday.

Texas A&M quarterback Jerrod Johnson was named the preseason offensive player of the year and Texas A&M linebacker Von Miller and Nebraska defensive lineman Jared Crick tied for the defensive player of the year award.
