Darrell Scott, the 6-2, 215-pound tailback from Ventura, Calif., who will play for Colorado this fall, was named the Big 12 Preseason Newcomer of the Year in a media poll, the results of which were announced Thursday. Senior defensive tackle George Hypolite, meanwhile, was voted to the first-team defense. | |||

Darrell Scott joined Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel (Offensive POY), and Oklahoma defensive end Auston English (Defensive POY) as the individuals honored in preseason voting. Scott earned All-America honors from Parade, Prep Star (Dream Team), SuperPrep and USA Today as a high school senior. He was Scout.com’s No. 1-rated tailback in the 2008 class. Scott was a three-time All-Conference first team performer and garnered All-State honors his junior and senior seasons. Scott rushed for 2,433 yards and 33 touchdowns as a senior while leading St. Bonaventure High School to the state championship. In addition, Colorado senior defensive tackle George Hypolite was named to the preseason All-Big 12 first team.
