Eckloff, who had an offer from Nebraska and several Ivy League schools (his GPA is over 4.0, Brookhart said), plus strong interest from New Mexico and Vanderbilt, has a lot of upside, according to Brookhart.
He averaged 10 points and five rebounds a game last season for Cherry Creek, which finished 17-9.
"He's very skilled," Brookhart said. "He was probably our best 3-point shooter as a junior. Can score inside, great hands, great passer. He has good upside because he's still very young — he just turned 17."
Asked what was it about Colorado that Eckloff liked, Brookhart didn't hesitate: "Coach Jeff Bzdelik," he said.
Eckloff isn't the first player of Brookhart's that Bzdelik has recruited. Former Cherry Creek player Grant Parker played for Bzdelik at Air Force last year. Brookhart thinks Eckloff will fit in with the system Bzdelik is bringing to Boulder.
"I think he'll fit perfectly," Brookhart said.
Brookhart also heads the Colorado Select summer team, a group of the best players in the state who play in tournaments around the country. The Select team, of which Eckloff is a part, is headed to tourneys in Las Vegas and Los Angeles this coming week.
