Inside, notes from Thursday's practice. Also, a rundown of scheduled events for the spring game weekend, including plans for honoring former Buff kicker Mason Crosby.

• The Buffs went through a brief practice in shorts and shirts Thursday afternoon, their final practice prior to Saturday’s annual spring game. Due to few numbers on the offensive line, the spring game will be more of a spring scrimmage in the order of 50 to 60 plays. It’s set to begin at 1 p.m. at Folsom Field. It will be streamlinked live via the Internet on CUBuffs.com

• Asked what he was looking for during the final scrimmage, head coach Dan Hawkins said, No. 1, no injuries. The Buffs have been relatively fortunate this spring in the injury department. Only wide receiver Scotty McKnight has suffered an injury that kept him completely out of any type of participation.

“I watched a little of that Oklahoma scrimmage, and I just really felt for them when that (fullback Brody Eldridge) got hurt,” Hawkins said, referring to OU’s April 7 spring game.

He also said he wants to see the typical stuff – players hustling and making plays.

“Obviously, I want to see some productivity,” he said. “It’s always some good news/bad news – one side does well and the other side doesn’t do so well. But I want to see some guys finishing, guys competing.”

Overall, Hawkins is positive about both the team’s offseason weightroom performance and what they’ve accomplished this spring. Fans are likely see a different offense — more effective — than the one that sputtered through last spring’s and last August’s scrimmages.

“I think we’re way different,” Hawkins said. “I think we have a whole different complexion.”

Erick Faatagi and Drew Hudgins will not participate in the spring scrimmage due to injuries.

• Spring game weekend festivities begin Friday. Alumni are expected to gather Friday, and were hoping for a round of golf, but that’s probably not going to happen as the Boulder area is bracing for a big spring snowstorm Thursday evening and all day Friday.

What is going as planned is a sale of Colorado athletic department gear (including game-worn jerseys and other paraphernalia) will take place from noon until 6 p.m. in Balch Fieldhouse. Proceeds will benefit the athletic department.

Unless severe weather causes changes, Saturday’s schedule looks like this.

10:30 a.m.- Noon, Folsom Field: Healthy Kids Day Event
11 a.m.-Noon, Folsom Field: Player autograph sessions
1 p.m., Folsom Field: Spring scrimmage
Halftime of spring scrimmage, Folsom Field: CU will honor Mason Crosby and hang his name and number on the prestigious ring of fame outside the press box in the stadium. He’ll join other Buffalo greats who are honored there such as Alfred Williams, Bobby Anderson and Byron White.

Fans can check CUBuffs.com for any changes in Saturday’s schedule due to weather.
