CU SID Dave Plati confirmed Monday evening that six scholarship players have left the Colorado program.
They include redshirt-freshmen OL Quinton Borders and TE Steven Fendry, sophomore OL Paul Backowski and Jeremy Hauck, junior WR Reggie Joseph and senior S Dominique Brooks. In addition, walk-on punter Isaac Garden, center Tom Grubin and WR Clayton Cammon, are no longer with the team.
Head coach Dan Hawkins, busy this week trying to secure the Buffs' 2007 signing class, was not available for comment, but said through Plati that the group of players left for assorted reasons.
Backowski and Borders were expected to vie for playing time, perhaps even starting positions, at tackle this spring and next season. Fendry, too, would've been in the mix at tight end following the graduation of two tight ends from the 2006 season. Brooks was the most experienced player of the group. The one-time starter at safety redshirted last season as he recovered from a knee surgery.
It appears that Colorado currently has 57 scholarship players on its roster heading into Signing Day, including recent juco transfers QB Nick Nelson and DE Drew Hudgins, as well as December high school graduate LB Josh Hartigan.
