Hawaii Tight End Returns From Colorado Premium Story
Savai'i Eselu (Scout.com)

Posted Nov 13, 2006

The nation's no. 37 tight end prospect was in Boulder over the weekend for an official visit. He has plenty of options regarding schools to choose from so the Buffs will be in a battle for his services. CU is in his top two after the trip.

Height: 6-4
Weight: 245
40 time: 4.91
Bench: 315
Squat: 360
Vertical:"32
From: Honolulu, Hawaii
High School: Moanalua

As a senior, Savai'i Eselu had 14 catches for 500 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, he had three tackles and two sacks. "I can block real good," Eselu insists. "Coaches tell me I am one of the best blocking tight ends in the nation. I am not the fastest guy but I use my size well. I am also a clean route-runner."

Moanalua finished 2-6 on the season.

Eselu visited Oregon last weekend before his weekend trek to Boulder. "I liked Oregon a lot. I had a good visit there. I also had a pretty sweet visit to Boulder. It was cool and a lot of fun. I liked the stadium. They say it is the most scenic stadium in the country and I believe that. I was thinking of majoring in Aerospace Engineering so I got to see that department and also their Business department. I think I am going to major in Sports Management now."

The Hawaiian native was hosted by a group of CU Polynesians. "I was hosted by B.J. Beatty, Michael Sipili and Erick Faatagi. It was real cool to be around guys with similar backgrounds as mine."

Obviously, CU's ace recruiter in Hawaii, Brian Cabral, is after Eselu for the Buffs. "I like Coach Cabral. He told me that he'll be here to see me in early December with Coach Hawkins."

The tight end was able to sit down with many of the coaches on his trip. "Coach Hawkins was telling me what an asset I can be to them as a blocker, receiver and runner. He said I could be the total package there. Coach Riddle was going over some of their tight end terminology and formations with me and I knew all of them. So him and I were on the same page."

Where do the Buffs stand on Eselu's list now? "Them and Oregon are my top two. I'd say Oregon has a slight lead. I am going to visit Arizona on Thanksgiving weekend. Then I will visit San Diego State in early or mid-December depending on if I am in the senior bowl here. I am also going to either visit Utah or Washington for my last trip. I will make my final decision sometime around Christmas."

Eselu carries a 3.8 core GPA and scored a 1500 on the SAT. He is qualified but will still take the SAT again on December 2nd.
