As a junior, Travis Goethel had 90 tackles, five sacks, two fumbles caused and two interceptions. On offense, at tight end, he had five catches for 100 yards and two touchdowns. "I am starting both ways this year," he explained. "But schools are recruiting me at linebacker and that is where I prefer to play."
Goethel now has written offers from San Diego State, UCLA, Utah, and most recently he received one from Colorado. "Nebraska also told my coach they would be offering about a week ago."
The Huskers are one of his top seven schools. "I like Utah, San Diego State, UCLA, Arizona State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, and Michigan. I do not really have a favorite."
He claims that the Utes and Aztecs are recruiting the hardest.
Did the recent CU offer improve his interest in the Buffs? "I have some interest in Colorado, but they are not one of my top schools. I like Coach Cabral. He seems really cool and has told me that he has put a lot of his guys into the NFL."
Goethel attended the USC camp recently and says that that is probably the extent of his summer camp plans. "I really don't think I'll be going anywhere else."
The linebacker carries a 3.0 core GPA and will be re-taking the SAT later this summer. He would like to major in Business.
