Buffs on Top for Greer After Visit (free content)

Posted Dec 20, 2004

Maurice Greer was recently named first team all-state and the Rocky Mountain News Player of the Year after rushing for 2,096 yards and 31 touchdowns for state champ Mullen. He officially visited Colorado over the weekend and gives us his thoughts.

Height: 5-11
Weight: 187
40 time: 4.5
Bench: 255
Squat: 415
From: Denver, Colorado
High School: Mullen

"It went real good," said Greer of the trip. "I took a tour around the school and spoke with all of the staff. I met with some academic counselors and professors to get an idea of what the college life will be like. We went out to eat a couple times and went to the basketball game to watch the Buffs versus CSU."

So where does CU stand after the visit? "They are still on top for me. The coaches told me that I will have a good chance of getting some early playing time. Especially now since they have lost three running backs this year and (Bobby) Purify is transferring. I got to talk to coach Simms, Barnett, Wristen, and Watson. They all told me my chances are good."

Coaches Simms and Barnett came by the Greer home for a visit on Friday before the trip. Kansas State was there the day before on Thursday evening. "Colorado and Kansas State are pretty close. I might decide soon, but I need to think it out and would like to visit K-State and MSU before I do that. I will visit KSU either January 21st or the 28th and I also have a trip scheduled with Michigan State for January 14th. Kansas State has offered me in writing and MSU has offered me over the phone."

Greer still needs a few core credits and a passing ACT score to be fully qualified.
