It has been a long and winding road for Michael Machen but he is ready to get on with his football career now. "I was recruited to Alabama by Dennis Franchione and his staff but I went on to play baseball instead after being drafted. When I got back to Alabama last year I ended up being second on their depth chart at quarterback after a couple of guys got injured and one was kicked off the team. Then a transfer quarterback came from Miami and I was third string. I decided it was best that I move on to Coffeyville and now I am a redshirt freshman here. I plan on finishing up and attending another college by Spring."

Machen is not sure where that college will be yet but he has a list of schools he wouldn't mind attending. "I would like to go back to the Southeast if I can because all of my family is there. So I like Ole Miss, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Arkansas. I am really open with recruiting, though. I also like Big 12 schools like Colorado, Nebraska, and Oklahoma State.

"Colorado came by the school today and they seem to have a good staff. I am honored that they are interested in me and I hope that they really start recruiting me."

Machen has no offers yet as schools are just starting to show interest. Texas A&M was at practice today.

The QB guesses he has passed for around 500 yards and five touchdowns in Coffeyville's 4-0 season. Machen says he has completed 60 balls and knows he only has one interception. He was named the NJCAA offensive player of the week after he went 9-for-17 with 173 yards and three touchdowns in a week two win over Garden City. He describes himself as a true drop-back signal caller.

Coffeyville takes on Butler County this Saturday.
