Colorado basketball fans will finally get their chance to see this year's team in action on October 19th. Head coach Tad Boyle announced after practice that Colorado will host an open intra-squad game on October 19th before Colorado's football game against Charleston Southern. The exact time and details of the game should be announced in the coming days.
Boyle is eager for the fans to get to see his team, particularly the freshmen, in live action prior to Colorado's first game against Baylor on November 8th. "Get our fans in here, give them an opportunity to see our guys," Boyle said. "See our freshman in front of a crowd. We have that to look forward too."
Colorado returns four starters from last year's 21-win, NCAA Tournament team. Juniors Askia Booker and Spencer Dinwiddie return in the backcourt, and sophomore forwards Xavier Johnson and Josh Scott return in the frontcourt.
One of the key story lines heading into the first game against Baylor has been who the fifth starter will be. Fans will get their first chance to see who that fifth starter may be in person. There are three returning players, in addition to the starters, coming back this year. 7-footer Ben Mills, a senior and part of Boyle's first recruiting class at Colorado, brings experience for the Buffaloes. Guards Xavier Talton and Eli Stalzer return for their sophomore campaigns.
October 19th will allow Colorado fans to finally see the team's 2013 recruiting class, as well as two members of the 2012 class that redshirted last year. Tre'Shaun Fletcher, Jaron Hopkins, George King and Dustin Thomas are all true freshmen vying for playing time. Redshirt freshmen Wesley Gordon and Chris Jenkins return with a year under their belt in Boyle's system.
