USAAAB: East Beats West, 15-8

The East rallies to beat the West with a late touchdown to win the 2013 U.S. Army All-American Bowl, 15-8...

Saturday will be a day that James Quick won't soon forget.

The Louisville (Ky.) Trinity receiver committed to the hometown Louisville Cardinals in the middle of the fourth quarter.

A few minutes later, Quick found himself in the back of the end zone, behind the West secondary, and reeled in a 34-yard touchdown pass from Auburn-bound Jeremy Johnson.

And it was, for lack of a better term, a quick score for the East.

Derrick Henry, the Alabama verbal, scored on the two-point conversion and put the East on top 15-8.

After USC-bound Chris Hawkins returned the ensuing kickoff to the East 40, the West couldn't muster any offense, and the East held on for the win.

Quick had just three catches for 71 yards, but was easily the most productive player during the game, even before his touchdown catch.

That was the general theme for the game, no offense, and plenty of defense.

The East got on the board early, scoring a two-yard touchdown on a short run by Henry to make it 7-0, but a field goal right before the half was blocked.

After getting the opening kickoff in the second half, the East chewed up 10 minutes of the clock, but came away empty-handed, another field goal getting blocked.

Finally, the West mustered some offense, Max Browne getting into a rythym, throwing a 16-yard touchdown pass to Texas A&M commit Derrick Griffin then hitting LSU pledge Desean Smith for a 2-point conversion to put the West up 8-7.

Taquan Mizzell, a Virginia commit, had a huge return of his own, down to the 28-yard line of the West, and that's when Quick and the East went to work.

The West was held to 90-yards in total offense, 19 yards on 19 carries on the ground and 71 yards on 7-of-20 passing.

The East ran for 132 yards on 34 carries and had 86-yards passing on 8-of-14 passing.

Tahaan Goodman and UCLA verbal Myles Jack led the West with five tackles, while Georgia commits Tray Matthews and Johnny O'Neal had four tackles to lead the East.

Alquadin Muhammad, who announced for Miami during the game, had a game high 1.5 sacks and forced a fumble.
