Sought WR to get lay of the land this weekend

HE'S THE KIND of physical wide receiver who can make the Air Raid go. And Washington State will use this coming weekend to further solidify his verbal commitment to the Cougs.

Vince Mayle (6-3, 220) out of Sierra College in Rocklin, Calif. verbally committed to Washington State this month but decided soon after to take one more official visit to West Virginia.

"I don't have any doubts or questions about Washington State at all," said Mayle. "West Virginia is the only thing in that state, the fan support is always going to be there."

In addition to Washington State, Mayle has been offered this recruiting cycle by Arizona State, Kentucky, Nevada, Houston and West Virginia.

Mayle is a physical receiver with deceptive speed. Despite being in his first year playing junior college football, he led the CCCAA in touchdown catches with 16.

With 61 receptions for 984 yards in 11 games, Mayle also ranked in the top 20 in receptions, yards, yards per game and yards per catch.

"I want the ball. I want the QB to know no matter what, he can look my way and feel safe," says Mayle.

AMONG THE KEY items of interest Mayle said he will be curious about this weekend are the Coug players – he wants to see what kind of a feeling he gets from them. With Mike Leach, he says he already he has a good take on him.

"He's a ‘hard' coach and I prefer hard coaches…he'll create tough players and I like that. I like a guy who is not afraid to tell a player like it is and get in his face… I just want to come in and play football," said Mayle.

As productive as Mayle is with the football in his hands, he takes a particular pride in his blocking – something that the Air Raid needs its wide receivers to do with the screens and quick outs.

"I love to block," said Mayle.

Mayle is schedule to graduate from Sierra in May with three to play two. Before this season, he played hoops for a different junior college, took a year off to care for his ailing mother and sat out the 2011 campaign at Sierra in order to hit the books.
