Bell needed help from team trainers getting off the field and a few hours later following an MRI, he learned his season was over because of a torn ACL.
Bell played in eight games in 2010 and was one of the more experienced players vying for the starting role at one of two cornerback spots. He figured to earn playing time again this fall regardless of whether he won the starting spot or not.
Now that Bell is out for the season, the door is open for other teammates to grab the job. Players such as Deji Olatoye, Paul Vigo, Parker Orms, Makiri Pugh, and Josh Moten will factor into the competition. True freshmen such as Sherrard Harrington and Greg Henderson also could earn a job.
Cornerback will be one of the toughest position battles over the next few weeks. We'll keep an eye on it for you.
