Young awaiting further review

The game films are in transit, waiting to be reviewed and meticulously dissected. Knowing he can do nothing but wait patiently for the verdict, Regis Jesuit (CO) High School receiver Casey Young is going to be content trying to help the Raiders win a state title while his suitors grade his skills.

Casey Young said his father sent the first few game films from 2010 to a handful of schools on Oct. 1, including Kansas State, Wyoming, Colorado, Colorado State, Boise State, and Eastern Washington. Now Young's waiting game kicks into high gear.

"My dad actually sent out the tapes today (Oct. 1) for my first four," Young said. "Recruiting, it's going well. They're all looking at my film now and we'll see how it goes down the road."

The coaches from those schools should be sufficiently impressed with Young's performance during the first half of the season. And with opposing defenses focused on not letting the speedy wideout beat them deep, Young still has found other ways to impact games.

In the season opener against Valor Christian, Young threw a 39-yard touchdown pass that helped make the difference in the Raiders' 25-21 win. Young finally broke loose in the passing game during a 48-14 win against Fruita Monument on Sept. 24, grabbing seven receptions for 130 yards and a touchdown.

In a showdown of ranked teams against Chaparral on Oct. 1, the day Young's game films were dropped in the mail, he again showed his versatility despite making only two catches for 14 yards. Instead, Regis got Young the ball on a handful of end-arounds that produced 62 yards on only four carries. Young also turned in a 23-yard punt return that helped set up the Raiders' go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter.

Clearly, Young's potential college coaches will have plenty of material to evaluate.

"I'm rolling with it," said Young, who won the Class 5A state titles in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles last spring. "Right now, I'm just worried about the season. If we get something good happens, I'll see what happens then. I'm just focused on the season. If I get that offer, I'll take it."
